Cruden Bay Thursday 31st August 2017
We were very lucky to have a beautiful sunny morning to welcome ladies to Cruden Bay Golf Club. It did cloud over and the later players had to contend with some sunny showers in the afternoon, but the rain didn’t dampen spirits on this last meeting of the 2017 BLSGA season. The star player of the day was definitely Cath Mitchell from Turriff who scored a wonderful 42 points on the St Olaf Course, Well done Cath ! There were 43 ladies in the bronze division playing on the St Olaf course and 17 in the silver division who played on the Main course. We received lots of positive feedback on the courses and views from the club house, with the fine weather making all the difference.
Winner of the refund draw was Freda MacPherson of Inverurie

Ellon Friday 18th August 2017
Rain, Rain go away and let us get on with our Golf. Ellon was the next victim of the great Scottish weather. Although the green staff hadn’t closed the course first thing this morning there was every possibility they would later. The forecast was for constant rain throughout the day, with a slight break around 10am, Well it was about right as the rain eased slightly for a few minutes at that time. Andrea, the reps mobile was constantly ringing with players calling off and within a short time there was only around 20 left on the list, and the decision was taken to cancel.
Alma Wildgoose the first rep for Ellon passed away last week, and a card was sent to her daughter Susie on behalf of our Association. Alma was rep from 1997 when the BLSGA started till 2007.

Winner of the refund draw was Joyce Walker of Cruden Bay.

Newburgh Thursday 3rd August 2017
Thunder storms and rain were forecast so a few ladies called off on the day, but on the whole the weather stayed dry for most. The early birds had sunshine but the later players got caught and the last 2 really got wet but it didn’t stop one from coming in second in the bronze section. I think her partner knew she was going well so hadn’t the heart to give up as there was only the two of them in the group. Ros what a star you were and hopefully Rita at least treated you to a coffee with her winnings,

Longside Friday 21st July 29017
For the second year running Lyndy our rep had to make phone calls to the other reps at 6.45am to give them the news that the course was closed due to flooding from heavy rain during the previous day and night. The Greenkeeper only opened 9 hole and a suggestion of playing 9 twice was too difficult to organise. 60 ladies playing and having to slot players in for the second while some were still to do their first would not have been practical. Thank you to Lyndy for her work during the one week she had to arrange the day and for the early morning calls on the day. We will have to have everything crossed for 2018 for Longside.

Fraserburgh Thursday 13th July 2017
Jean the rep for Fraserburgh wrote :- It is wonderful to report that the weather was dry, warm and with only a slight breeze, So it is not surprising that scoring was very good. 62 ladies took part in the competition and 29 competitors managed to score 30 points or more. The Greenkeepers have been widening the fairways which we all appreciate but a wayward shot will see you in quite thick rough. So the secret is to stay on the fairway. Many players complimented on the condition of the course. There is always a very high demand for pies from the caterer so it is always advisable to place an order before you tee off and it will be ready to pick up after your game. This year was no exception and Gladys reported sales of around 55 – 60 pies. Yumm!!

Winner of the draw for yearly subs refund was Donia Keith of C.B A profitable day for Donia with also getting 1st prize in Silver Well Done.

Turriff Thursday 15th June 2017.
After the terrible flooding Turriff suffered on their course just the previous week the course was remarkably dry underfoot with good golfing weather. The rough was heavy which gave the excuse for not brilliant scores. We need excuses when we aren’t playing great, regardless if they are a bit exaggerated at times, it makes us feel better. We are nearly half way through our fixture list for 2017 which is a bit scary. They say time flies past when you are enjoying yourself, so more excuses and complaints about our golf please and it may slow time down !!!

Oldmeldrum Friday 2nd June 2017
What a good day we had here this year with no hesitation on going out to play. Last year it was eventually abandoned due to rain so for the majority it was 2 years since they last played this course. Scores were good with 24 players having 30 plus points and the winner in Bronze section having 41pts. Good weather certainly helps our golf. The home baking from the caterer went down well and a few extra lbs were gained.
Winners can be seen on News Page under results. Winner of the draw for yearly subs refund was Elsie Duthie of Fraserburgh

Inverurie Friday 19th May 2017
The weather was fine. Good, calm, warm , sunny just great golfing weather, then fine rain started mid afternoon which the last players got caught in. Unfortunately the turnout was down from previous years at this venue but all players enjoyed their game saying the conditions of the course was excellent. Esme Stevenson whose home course is Inverurie had a “HOLE IN ONE” at the 15th par 3. Her playing partners were Yvonne Carrol and Jennifer Gibb. Go to the News page on this site and see Esme showing off her score card. She finished with 33 points but her 15th hole was the highlight of her day. Congratulations Esme.

Peterhead Thursday 4th May 2017
What a great start to the season at Peterhead with lovely weather, a great change from previous years at this course. We didn’t have the weather to use as an excuses for our not too good scores, and again it was Reduction Only. 10 ladies managed to have a stableford score of 30 and over and 30 ladies were in the 20’s
Winners can be seen on NEWS PAGE under results. Winner of refund of yearly Subscriptions was:- Lorna Edwards of Oldmeldrum

Cruden Bay Thursday 1st September 2016
What a wonderful day we had here today. Although our numbers were greatly reduced, our final venue of the season finished on a high. The weather was at it’s very best, sunshine from early morning till late afternoon when there was a small shower of rain. Most players were ion by then. Winning score were excellent. Our competition on the main course was nearest the pin on the 10th hole with players second shot, the winners ball was actually in the hole for two. Great Margaret Bolger. St Olaf nearest the pin being won by Suzanne Wood. Then to top things off a Turriff lady, namely Alison Mearns came in with a Hole In One at the 15th on the main course. What a finish to yet another season. Let us now look forward to a good season in 2017

Ellon Friday 19th August 2016
Another good day was had by 58 players here. Where are all our members hiding, as numbers have been down the last few games. Is it the weather that is putting members off venturing out onto the courses. The ladies who were at Ellon enjoyed the 20th Anniversary item the rep organised which was the straightest drive at the 13th hole. Great hilarity in the club house after when the excuses for not being nearer to the line started with, the person who marked the line must have had a good night out on the Thursday, if the ground was flat my ball would not have run down to the left side and we think our balls went straighter than the line one group said. Janet Duguid from Inverurie made no excuse for winning by landing her ball about 2 inches form the line. Winning the £20. The subs draw was also an Inverurie member Kay Ross and Inverurie also took 3 winning places in the Bronze division. Well done to Inverurie having a very fruitful day.

Newburgh Thursday 4th August 2016
We did manage to play with only a threat of showers, but unfortunately only 46 members went along. Is it the weather that is putting so many players off going to our venues or the fact everyone is having to catch up on club rescheduled games this year. We can only hope our next and last 2 games of the season will be well attended. Newburgh did the longest drives for the 20th Anniversary at 2 holes and the silver division winner was Andrea Thomson of Ellon and Bronze was Joyce Giles of Oldmeldrum. Congratulations to both and hope you both buy something nice with your £10. As our last venue Longside was cancelled due to the course being water logged their draw for the subs refund was done at Newburgh with Susan Gray of Turriff being the winner. The winner of Newburgh’s draw was Lyn McDonald of Oldmeldrum. Congratulations to both.

Longside Friday 22nd July 2016
Unfortunately once again this year we have been unable to play one of our venues, this time Longside. The greenkeeper took the decision at 7am to only open 9 holes of the course and this was of no use for the Buchan Tour. Phone calls for the next half hour by the reps to notify their ladies and I think in a number of cases it was, turn over for another wee while before rising. The day turned out really fine with lovely sunshine and blue shies but underfoot was a different story. This game will not be rescheduled as trying to fit in around 9 clubs fixture lists is no mean task, plus with the extra work for the reps it was decided at a committee meeting a few years ago that cancelled games would not be rescheduled for this reason. We have been really unfortunate this year but hopefully the next 3 will have no problems.

Fraserburgh Friday 8th July 2016
Although it was light rain at 8 o’clock in the morning, this did not deter the stoic lady members of the BLSGA from setting off to the first tee. They were rewarded as the rain stopped and a nice day followed. 57 ladies played with varying degrees of success and enjoyed their day out. Our date clashed with the Scottish Open at Castle Stewart where some of our members had gone, not to play we may add but to watch, so hence our lower numbers. There was also the secondary competition to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the BLSGA. This took the form of a 9 hole putting competition and was won by Kay Ross of Inverurie with a score of 16. – 7×2 putts and 2×1 putts. A great score.

TURRIFF Thursday 23rd June 2016
Turriff was our fourth meeting and think it has been the best one so far weather wise. It was so very hot one lady member had to perform a strip tease act on the 12th tee. How many of you witnessed that ? 70 ladies attended which is a good number and Cruden Bay did very well out of the day. One lady taking 2nd prize in Silver division, one winning the target golf for the 20th anniversary prize and another taking home the £30 refund from the subs draw. Well done all and we look forward now to Fraserburgh.
For the 20th Anniversary Celebration Turriff organised TARGET GOLF and Donia Keith of Cruden Bay won this with 4 Points

OLDMELDRUM Friday 3rd June 2016
Unfortunately the weather today left the club with no option but to close the course half way through the day. Torrential rain and thunder descended on Oldmeldrum with players out on the course phoning in to the rep in the club house wondering what was happening. This was greeted with delight that the game was abandoned, so it was a rush back to the club house to dry off and hot tea’s, coffee’s all round. It is unfortunate when this happens after all the work the rep and her helpers put into the organisations of the day but none of us have any control over the weather.
The draw still took place for the Subscription refund and was won by Margaret Ewing of Longside.
For the 20th Anniversary Celebrations a birthday cake was drawn for and the winner of this was Colette Robertson of Cruden Bay

INVERURIE Friday 20th May 2016
Sun shone on Inverurie golf course today for 74 players. Weather was great for golfing not too hot and with a wee rain shower to water the greens !!! The 10 minute intervals with tee times brought in this year seem to be working and is curtailing all the hold ups we had at courses in the past. Long may it continue.
For the 20th Anniversary years celebrations Inverurie had 6 secret holes. All players were asked to putt out at all holes then once the cards were handed in, the desk assistants added up the scores at the chosen holes with highest and lowest winners. Winners were Shona Reid Ellon (13h’c) with 23 and Lyne West Fraserburgh (34h’c) with 41
All cards had a number on them and the winner of the lucky card number drawn was Margaret Bolger of Longside who won a pot plant.
The winner of the yearly subscription refund was Donia Keith of CB

PETERHEAD THURSDAY 5TH MAY 2016
Welcome to the first game of the season played at Peterhead. Peterhead didn’t let us down, by having the fairly normal Gale Force 10 Winds. On checking back the last few years out of 4 played we had one year with no winds. Thursday was no exception with electric trolley’s blown over and ladies fighting to keep on their feet. But the sun shone and it wasn’t very cold. Scores were a bit on the low side !!! A few statistics for you. A total of 347 holes from all 71 players had a nil score at them and 223 of them were over 7 holes being 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 & 18. But we all love our golf This was our first venue for our 20th Anniversary Celebrations where various fun activities are being held at all the courses. Peterhead had nearest the pin at 16th and Irene Thomson of Inverurie won the £20.
The winner of the yearly subscription refund of £30 was Cath Stewart of Ellon.
