2026 Proposal for
Protocol for Postponements Suspension and Abandonments
General:
Competitions postponed or abandoned will be reorganised for play as soon as possible. The Committee acknowledge that this will not always be possible because of Clubs’ prior commitments.
Competition Postponed before play:
a. The decision to postpone because of a course being unplayable will be taken in consultation with the course officials.
b. The new start sheet for the event will be created online and populated with entrants by Club Reps .
If play has to be stopped due to bad weather the first decision wil be – Suspend Play
Competition Suspended
a. The decision to suspend a competition because of a course becoming unplayable due
to bad weather will be taken in consultation with the course officials.
b. When play is suspended players will mark the last position of their ball on an
unfinished hole with tees so that play can re-commence when weather and/or
ground conditions improve.
c. Suspension will be in effect for a maximum of 1 hour thereafter, if there is no
improvement in conditions, play will automatically be abandoned.
Competition Abandoned during the event:
a. The decision to abandon for any given reason will be taken in consultation with the course officials.
b. Only if 50% or more of entrants, i.e. all those who have scorecards created on the morning of the event, have completed their round prior to the abandonment and returned scorecards signed, verified and entered into the computer then the results will stand, prizes will be awarded and scores will apply to all BSGA trophy competitions.
The event will not be rearranged.
c. If the competition has not gone beyond that threshold, the event will be re-arranged if possible.
Communication of News of Postponements:
a. The first step in spreading news of a postponement will be for an email to be sent by the Secretary and Administrator to Club Reps.
b. As soon as possible thereafter, the news of the postponement will be posted on the BSGA website News Page.
WHS Handicaps In an Abandoned Competition
a. All completed, verified and entered cards will count towards a player’s WHI.
b. If 10 or more holes have been completed and cards verified and entered into the
computer these scores will count towards handicaps only, not for the BSGA event.
c. All players who have not submitted a score will be removed from the competition.
